Recording and live equipment

The rack consists of, from the top:

dbx286A Voice channel

Yamaha TG100 Synth Module and  a PPS2     tape Synchronizer.

Roland M-BD1 Drum and Bass Synth.

Kawai K1r Synth Module.

Alesis 3630 Compressor/Limiter/Gate.

 Behringer Ultra-Graph Pro 2 x 31 Band EQ

Zoom RFX 2000 Digital Reverb and Multi FX.

 Alesis Microverb Effects X 2.

 Studiomaster Ufex Digital Delay.

 Samson 2 x 85 watts Power Amplifier.

 Signex CP 44 Patchbays X 2.

The microphone I use for vocals and acoustic guitar is the Rode NT1.  It has a great warm sound.  It is connected directly to the dbx 286A vocal channel pre-amp, which has it's own de-esser, compressor and enhancer.

The pop shield you see, I made from an embroidery hoop.  Very effective.

For live gigs, I use a Shure Beta 58A.

The main mixer is a Fostex 812 8 x buss mixer, into an R8 8 x track tape machine.  The tape machine can be locked to the PC running Cubase VST via the PPS2 Synchronizer.

The small mixer is a Behringer 1602 which I use for the CD player, Minidisk player (one of my mastering machines) and twin cassette player.

The PC has recently  been upgraded.  I threw away the motherboard and processor and it now has an AMD XP3000+ and 1 Gb of RAM.  A Saphire Radeon 9600  Atlantis  graphics card has also replaced the old voodoo 2. This allows me to make use of two screens, which gives me more room for all of the 'windows'.  A Soundblaster Audigy  and M-Audio soundcards are fitted.  The latency is now zero which is perfect.

Teac Mastering machine

Fostex 8 track recorder

Phonic mixer/amp

Tascam digital 24xtrack recorder

TheTeac mastering machine is used alongside a Mini-disc

recorder which I use as backup.

The Fostex R8 tape machine can record eight tracks simultaneously. Auto locate, auto rewind to last recording position etc.

The power amp/mixer I use on gigs is this Phonic.  It delivers 2x400 watts stereo or 800 watts in mono (bridged).

The Tascam 2488 Digital 24 track is very quick and easy to use. Absolutely everything can be done with it including burning to a CD-R disc.
